DALE JARRETT TO REPLACE RUSTY WALLACE IN BOOTH ! ! !

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -Dale Jarrett will replace Rusty Wallace in the booth this season for ESPN's coverage of NASCAR, while Wallace will become the lead analyst for the network's studio programs.

"We now have the opportunity to provide our viewers with analysis from a pair of former NASCAR Cup champions,'' Norby Williamson, ESPN executive vice president, said of the switch.

The move is not exactly surprising - Jarrett thrived last season when he helped call Nationwide Series events last year, and many believed he was headed into a second career of broadcasting when he retires from racing after driving the first five races of 2008.

It's the same path his father, Ned, took upon his retirement from racing. The two-time Cup champion was part of ESPN's crew from 1988 to 2000 and became one of the most respected analysts in NASCAR. He offered his son advice when he began dabbling in the booth last season.

"He told me to relax and just talk like I do,'' Dale Jarrett said last summer. "I think that's the thing I always loved about my Dad, he never tried to be somebody that he wasn't. And I can't be somebody else if I tried. So he just told me to relax and have fun with it.''

Jarrett, the 1999 Cup champion, will join Jerry Punch and Andy Petree in the booth. The three have been friends since high school in Hickory, and all entered NASCAR about the same time.

Wallace, the 1989 Cup champion, joined ESPN upon his 2005 retirement. He was an analyst in 2006 for ESPN's coverage of the IndyCar Series, and moved into the NASCAR booth last season when the network reacquired the television rights for half the season.

But Wallace struggled at times in the booth, and fans complained he mispronounced drivers' names and didn't seem comfortable.

Now in the studio, Wallace will run all the studio programs and will fill in for Jarrett when needed.

Also, Allen Bestwick will host NASCAR Countdown, joining Wallace and analyst Brad Daugherty on the pre-race program.

Nicole Manske has also been hired to host NASCAR Now, ESPN's daily magazine-style show. She will share the job with Bestwick and Ryan Burr on a show that struggled last season with hosts as viewers never warmed up to a rotating cast of personalities.

In addition, Shannon Spake was promoted to full-time pit reporter to replace Bestwick. She'll be joined on pit road by returnees Dave Burns, Jamie Little and Mike Massaro.

ESPN will cover all 35 Nationwide races this season and the final 17 Sprint Cup races of the season.

im gonna make the account in early feb. so i can start the 2008 nascar season on one account.

i went on shopaarons.com the other day and i saw they updated their photo gallery with pics of david from every busch race! i saved about a hundred pics!
i now have 670 pics of david saved on my computer!

Michael McDowell, the 2007 runner-up on the ARCA circuit, will succeed David Reutimann in the No. 00 Sprint Cup car at Michael Waltrip Racing, sources confirmed to NASCAR.COM.

McDowell, a 22-year-old native of Phoenix, likely will take over the No. 00 Toyota in late March at Martinsville, Va., when Reutimann will slide into the No. 44 car being vacated by the retirement of teammate and 1999 series champion Dale Jarrett. A formal announcement is expected later this month.

McDowell comes from a varied racing background. He raced go-karts in Europe against future Formula One drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosburg, competed in a number of different sports car series, and got what he thought was his big break when the Rocketsports Champ Car team fielded cars for him in the final two events of the 2006 season. He finished 12th at Surfers Paradise and 11th in Mexico City, but a lack of funding left him searching for a ride.

A contact with Chip Ganassi's team led to him to Lorin Rainier, the organization's development chief, who in turn sent him to ARCA team owner Eddie Sharp. Sharp already was fielding a car for Josh Wise, a Michael Waltrip Racing developmental driver, which helped McDowell catch the eye of the Sprint Cup team owner and land a developmental deal of his own.

Michael Waltrip Racing officials tested McDowell and Wise repeatedly during the offseason in the hopes that one would be ready to take over the No. 00 car in 2008. Wise, a two-time U.S. Auto Club champion, likely is bound for a Nationwide Series ride, pending sponsorship

[2007 year in review]

2007 was a great year for the most part. the best parts were meeting david reutimann at dover, going the dover busch race, going to pocono [autograph alley], getting tickets to the jeff gordon hosptality tent and track tour at dover. =D

jeff gordon has always been my #1. he's the reason why i started watching nascar and everyone knew i was a gordon fan and they didnt think that would ever change. neither did i. i was wrong. david reutimann instantly became my favorite when i never thougth anyone could replace jeff. since 2005, i liked david reutimann because he was darrell's driver. but i didnt know much about him. in 2006 when he started racing busch i started paying more attention to him and rooting for him. once he got a cup ride with mwr in 2007, the obsession began. no other driver's attitude can compare to david's. he is so humble and sweet, yet he has such a passion for racing.

meeting him was one of the best things that ever happened to me. i expected him to be nice, but he totally went beyond my expectations. when i gave him the printout of my question from his teamdominos blog to sign, he actually read the whole thing. [and said my name hehehe] and he shook my hand, which was something i was hoping for. then when he was leaving, it was so nice of him to say he liked my sign, but then when he said he saw it on the website but the words weren't colored in, i almost died. haha. he is so busy and has so much on his mind, i never expected him to even see the sign on the website, yet alone remember if the words were colored in or not! and he even gave me a hug. =D most amazing 5 seconds ever lol.

that right there shows why david reutimann is my favorite driver. he is soooo amazing <3.

some of the other best parts were:
the football games and dances / kyle and i's 2 year anniversary / a few fun parties / going to the mall and movies with kyle / inside jokes and funny stuff from school / getting pumped up for nascar / david reutimann's first busch series win /

but of course, there were bad parts to the year as well.
-school drama-
going to lourdes changed a lot of people. just because i dont have classes with people, all of a sudden means we cant be friends anymore. everyone has to judge other people and cant accept someone who is a little different. not getting invited to parties by people who i thought i was good friends with - stuff like that. the people in my class need lives.

the other bad parts were:
not seeing kyle all summer / the struggles mwr had to go thru / losing friendships / teachers wanting us to fail and giving hard tests on purpose / people flipping out over nothing /

[ Hylton teams with EM Motorsports team for Daytona ARCA race: John Carter, owner of EM Motorsports, informed James Hylton that he was selected to drive the team’s 2007 Dodge Charger in the 2008 ARCA Daytona 200 on February 9th. Hylton tested the 2007 Charger at Daytona International Speedway in mid December and was 18th fastest with a best lap of 50.702 seconds / 177.508 mph. In 2005, John Carter / EM Motorsports scored a 9th place finish in the Daytona 500 with a Dodge Charger driven by Kevin Lepage. The 2007 EM Motorsports Dodge Charger will be sponsored by Rhino Energy Drink of Austria. Hylton has said that Speedweeks 2008 will be his final run at Daytona as a driver in the ARCA/REMAX series. Hylton sees this effort as a great opportunity to start the 2008 ARCA/REMAX season off with a bang. Hylton is also looking for an opportunity to attempt a start in the 50th Daytona 500.(Hylton Motorsports PR)(12-31-2007) ]

ok. nothing against james hilton but his career is pretty much over.
either burney lamar or carl long was supposed to drive the #08 car at daytona. burney had a shot at being in the 500! put burney in the car because he actaully has a career ahead of him and he's very talented and needs experience in the cup series. he deserves this so much. i cant believe this!

i havent posted on here in a little while so here's the past few days:

wednesday.
i went to the mall with my mom, caitlin, and her mom cheryl. the mall was really crowded for all those "after christmas sales" lol. i got a t-shirt in aeropostale bc they were only $5 and i got charlie brown vanilla hot cocoa mix in one of the craft stores. and caitlin found some high school musical stuff in claires. a lot of the stores weren't having good sales tho. so we went back to her house and hung out there for a few hours.

i just stayed home on thursday. i spent wayy to much time on the computer and playing gamecube. the only other thing i did was organize some stuff in my room.

i went to my grandma and grandpa's house. i got money, body wash and lotion. it was kinda boring tho because a lot of people from my family who usually come weren't there. it was just my aunt and uncle that came.

i went to the mall with my parents today to do some last minute christmas shopping. it was pretty crowded in the mall, but it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. there is a nascar store in the mall called "chase the cup" and they never have any sales and the only david reutiman thing they have in there is a sticker. no die cast cars or anything! grrr. everything was 50% off in aero so i got some stuff in there and body wash and lotion in ae.

yesterday
i put this part in another entry > [[i went in napa the other day with my mom bc we noticed that the stand up wasnt in the window so if they were just gonna throw it out were gonna ask for it [thats how i got my kevin harvick stand up from value city] but the guy said that it was gone.
but he said to come back friday bc he has some posters he'd give me.]]

well we went in yesterday and the guy couldnt find the posters [ he said he's pretty sure he knows where they are if we want to come back another day] so the lady there brought out a mikey bobblehead and gave it to me for $4.00 =) it's the younger mikey [DEI] and he's holding his helmet. and it actually looks like him [most nascar bobbleheads dont look like the drivers] i love it! =D

the morning
[we followed a short schedule in school today bc we had mass.] we had confession today. its not that i hate confession bc you shouldnt hate a sacrament, but i dont really look forward to it. class was only 30 mins. so we all went out in the hall and got in line for confession.. i was at the end of the line with kyle and sarah. once it got to be close to my turn they called us to homeroom before mass. so she said she'd get us later but she forgot. heheh. so then we went to homeroom to get the toy we brought for the christmas liturgy [every year we have a christmas liturgy and everyone buys a toy for a kid and we give them to toys for tots] the mass was ok except for father's 5 hour homily lol. mass went over the scheduled time, and then when it was over they talked to the freshmen and 8th grade about the junior national honor society. they told us to go to 3rd period after that but the bell was gonna ring in like 5 mins so we got out of algebra class!! yay! =) then spanish was soo boring but he told us we're having a party on friday! thats good. he's the only teacher in the christmas spirit! other teachers just give us tests. =/
the afternoon
one word. BORING!
it went by so slow. the only good thing was a got a 123/125 on my english binder. [btw, i have David's #00 Dominos card in the front cover of the binder! =) ] nothing else worth mentioning so i'll just move on..
after school
my mom and i went to mauers and i got black raspberry ice cream and it was amazingggggg. lol. then we drove by NAPA and ...

they've always had one in the window there. they've had one since i was a little kid, before i even knew who mikey was. then that one reallyyyyy faded from the sun so they got a new one for 2007 and now it's gone. so my mom asked the guy if they still had it like if they'd give it to us if they were just gonna throw it out .. but he said it's gone. but then he said that he probably has some posters and he'd give them to me. he said to come back friday. !!

helloooo.

we had a 2 hour delay today! =)
and i was actually in a good mood this morning. which never happens on school mornings! lol. i wish school would start at 10:00 am everyday! even 9:00 would be ok!

the christams dance is cancelled die to "low ticket sales and lack of interest". and i'm kind of happy. but me and kyle decided not to go anyway, instead, we're gonna go see national treasure book of secrets and go to the mall. =) im soooo excited for that bc we've never been able to go anywhere together. one time we tried to meet at the mall without my parents knowing but then they got really suspicious and wouldn't leave my side so that didnt work out lol.

nascar allows busch's points to go to hornish
grrrrrrrrr. stuff like this makes me mad. if you cant qualify yourself, you shouldnt be in the race. as a rookie, you want to be respected, and this sure doesnt earn my respect. we all know kurt is gonna qualify for the races, and he's not even gonna need the provisional, but those are kurt's points, not sam's. and he shouldnt get them. if you dont have enought talent to qualify, you dont have enough talent for the sprint cup series. sorry. all these open wheel guys need to go run a year in nationwide or truck and get more experience.

the speed report was so boring last night. they didnt even show anything about mwr with the crew chief changes, only on that ticker at the bottom. but when there were crew chief changes at penske racing with roy mccauley going to the #12 team, they showed it on the speed rip and they showed roy and ryan. hmm... =/

i cant wait for nascar testing. omggggg. im gonna freaking die until then lol.
im also excited for the ROLEX 24! i love that race. last year i watched all of it and wake up at like 5:50am to see it lol. the thing i want to know is if jeff gordon is in it this year. he said he wanted to do it again but nobody really said anything about him yet.

i forgot to say this last week, but on the speed report they showed indycar testing and dan wheldon got his teeth fixed! omg! and his hair is kinda different i think. i liked his old teeth, but i think he looks gorgeous now =) i've been trying to find a pic but they didnt have any pics of him from testing.

well i guess thats it. =)
